After starting with a Silhouette Portrait 3 cutting stickers for my business in 2021 (I'm an independent artist and make stickers of my work to sell in my shop/ conventions/ Patreon, etc.) I was getting really frustrated with the machine's limitations in accuracy, speed, material waste and general pain-in-the-tail user experience and started looking for an upgrade.
Through happenstance, I came across a few videos on YouTube showcasing this new (to me) machine, and with some extra research through assorted Reddit forums, I was convinced to make the investment and upgrade to the Siser Juliet.
I was very nervous, as it's a significant increase in cost compared to offerings from Silhouette or Cricut, but I was really impressed with the performance I'd seen and read about and took the plunge.
And honestly, with only a few weeks of using it, I couldn't be MORE pleased with the decision!
Already, I'm saving HUGE amounts of material that would have been wasted with my old machine (largely through miscuts), and after getting more familiar with the software, I'm also spending way less time cutting!
(She's so zippy!)
The only real complaint I have lies with the software. It's not the easiest to begin with, and even with my experience with Silhouette Design Studio, the learning curve was a little steep. The support documentation and the small, but thorough video tutorials I was able to find were a big help, but I found much of my trouble came largely from being used to reaching for features Leonardo doesn't offer... yet.
My designs are quite detailed and fine a lot of the time, so finding new work-arounds for the Leondardo program was a bit of a challenge, and still a
That's a bit of a drawback, admittedly - the machine is amazing, but if the software doesn't support what you need, it's a moot point (as a general comment on all cutters, not just this one).
The big saving grace, and reason I'd 100% recommend transferring to this cutter (or the Romeo, if you need something bigger), despite the software's current limitations, is that it's still a work in progress, and the program is actively being developed and improved with every patch they put out.
I also hear that feedback from the community is actively applied when changes and features are introduced, and honestly, that's a really wonderful sign that while it may be lacking some software features *at the moment* that I'd like to see, the company is actively improving and refining in tandem with the needs of the people using their products.
I'm very happy to have made the switch, and I'd recommend it easily to anyone looking to upgrade from a hobby machine - or for their first machine, for that matter, if you're already certain you'll be needing a solid machine for the long term and you have the finances to do it!
